The Jaws of Life

Pasadena's finest came to the rescue yesterday at about 3 p.m. Firefighters from Stations 31 and 39 used the jaws of life to extricate an injured person from this car that crashed on the 710 Freeway at Del Mar Boulevard.

The jaws of life is a heavy-duty pneumatic tool that is used to pry sections of a wrecked vehicle apart.

Many thanks to Pasadena Fire Department for the photos.

I hope the poor person inside was all right? I have had several near misses at that crossing point of two different traffic streams.

That's dramatic. I hope they never have to use those jaws to save me, but if they do, I'm glad to pay my taxes so these guys can be there and supplied with the necessary tools.

Bellis, the person was transported to a local hospital for treatment. I don't know the severity of the injuries.

Petrea, Pasadena is so fortunate to have eight fire stations spread throughout the community, which is unheard of for a community of this size. As a result, response to any area is swift. An added bonus: Fire stations have relationships with the neighborhoods in which they're situated.
